Homero Magaña

Professor Homero M. Magaña, M.A., M.S., PPS is a tenure-track instructor and Fieldwork Coordinator in the Graduate Counselor Education Program at California Lutheran University, where he's pursuing his doctorate and coaching the CHESS Male Initiative supporting Hispanic male students.


Over 18 years, he has guided students at all education levels, spending 14 years at Moorpark Unified School District championing English language learners, leading the AVID program, and coordinating 504 and diversity initiatives—managing caseloads up to 1,200 students while shaping educational policies and school culture.


As Founder/CEO of Magaña Education Consulting, LLC, he empowers educators and families through signature presentations including "From El Rancho to the White House," drawing from his experience overcoming poverty as an immigrant, migrant farmworker, first-generation college student, and English Language Learner. His consulting provides comprehensive Tier 1-3 services instilling resilience, passion, and advocacy.


Homero immigrated from El Rincón De Don Pedro, Michoacán, Mexico at age 12 without English, working seven summers harvesting alongside his father before earning degrees from UC Berkeley, San Diego State (M.S. Counseling), and CSU Northridge (M.A. Educational Administration), with study abroad in Spain and Morocco.


A bilingual K-12 counselor since 2006 and consultant for California's College Access Initiative, his advocacy led him to introduce First Lady Michelle Obama at the 2014 White House College Opportunity Summit. He's addressed thousands at state and national conferences including the California Association of School Counselors.



His recognition includes Nissan's "Hispanics Who Dominate" campaign, the California SPARC Award, and "Champion of Education" Award. He lives with wife Paola, sons Diego and Milán, and golden retriever Coko.

Immigrating from Michoacán, Mexico at age 12 without English, he worked seven summers in the fields before earning degrees from UC Berkeley, San Diego State, and CSU Northridge. With 18+ years in education—including introducing First Lady Michelle Obama at the 2014 White House College Opportunity Summit—he's a nationally recognized bilingual keynote speaker and "Champion of Education" Award recipient advocating for equity and higher education access.


Homero immigrated from Michoacán, Mexico at age twelve without knowing English, worked alongside his father in the fields for seven summers, and went on to earn degrees from UC Berkeley, San Diego State University, and CSU Northridge, with study abroad experience in Spain and Morocco.
